New Energy Contract Saves University Money

Beginning next year, UNC Charlotte will save about $370,000 per year in electric bill savings, or about four percent, due to participation in a UNC System-wide Energy Savings Performance Contract. Facilities Management staff will soon replace old, inefficient fluorescent fixtures with LEDs in thirteen buildings on campus. “The UNC System has taken out a loan to pay for implementation and the energy savings will repay the loan,” said Tony Schallert, energy manager in the Facilities Management Department.

Lighting replacements are expected to begin by Thanksgiving and continue through April, 2014. Slated buildings include Atkins Library, Cone University Center and McEniry and Smith Buildings. For questions, please contact Tony Schallert at aschall1@uncc.edu or 704-687-5384.
