Programs

We have various program components within the Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling ranging from composting, general recycling pickup, education and construction and demolition recycling. We are deeply committed to reducing the footprint of the University when it comes to waste diversion.

In addition to our in-house programs, we work closely with students, faculty and staff to implement new ideas and increase sustainability on campus. Below is an overview, but you can click on the menu to the left for more detailed information.

  • Adopt-A-Spot: An opportunity for student clubs and organizations to make a difference on campus!
  • Our composting program has been in place since 2000. Currently we collect leftover food waste from Crown Commons, South Village, Orbis Grille, Starbucks, Einstein Brothers Bagels, Main Street Market, Prospector and the new Catering kitchen. This food waste is collected and sent to Earth Farms to be turned into compost.
  • Our Construction and Demolition program was started in 2005. It’s designed to create re-use or recycling opportunities from construction and re-modeling projects on campus. If either of those aren’t an option, this material is transported to a special C&D landfill, keeping it out of our Municipal Landfills.
  • Campus Move In & Move Out: We work with Housing & Residence Life to offer recycling and reuse opportunities each year during student move in and move out.
  • Zero Waste Football: Since the opening of Jerry Richardson Stadium, our office and countless volunteers have helped to strive for zero waste at every home football game!
