What’s Going On:
HVAC equipment will be temporarily out of service for an extended period.

When:
Monday, October 12, 2026 6:00 AM to Tuesday, October 13, 2026 8:00 PM

What to Expect:
– Multiple areas will experience significantly reduced airflow and warmer-than-normal temperatures during this period..

Why:
Critical maintenance and repairs are required to restore and maintain the HVAC system’s proper operation.

What’s Going On:
Pedestrian access along the walkway will be fully closed for scheduled maintenance.

When:
Monday, October 12, 2026 7:00 AM to Wednesday, October 14, 2026 7:00 AM

What to Expect:
– Pedestrian access connecting the dock to adjacent buildings will be unavailable during the maintenance period.
– Barricades will be installed to secure and isolate the work area. Pedestrians should use alternate routes where available.

Why:
Scheduled maintenance will include asphalt repairs, repainting, and restriping to maintain the walkway and improve its condition.

What to Expect:
– Expect the area to be cooler than normal.
– We do not expect this to affect any other floors.

Why:
Contractors need to replace heating hot water piping.

What’s Going On:
The sidewalk and stair at the south side of Kennedy will be closed off via fencing and construction barricading.

When:
Tuesday, October 13, 2026 8:00 AM to Friday, January 29, 2027 5:00 PM

What to Expect:
– Heavy construction equipment including a crane, concrete trucks, dumpsters, etc.
– Temporary emergency egress routes WILL be provided and indicated via signage – the emergency egress route will vary depending on the phase of construction between usage of portions of the stairs, and usage of a temporary emergency exit ramp that will circumvent the stairs entirely.

Why:
This work is part of the ongoing project to replace the stairs, which have reached the end of their useful service life.

A brief power outage is required to install a 30-day meter on the electrical panel that serves the main building’s telecommunications systems and elevator.

When:

– A brief power outage will occur on Level 0 during the meter installation.

Why:
This work is necessary to safely install a meter on the electrical panel that will serve the future classroom renovation.

What to Expect:
Vehicle access to Parking Lot 20 will be restricted from October 10 through October 13, weather permitting.

Why:
The work is necessary to seal-coat, crack-seal, and re-stripe the parking lot.

What’s Going On:
There will be a power interruption to RUP 1 and the Student Activity Center beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026.

When:
Sunday, October 11, 2026 7:00 AM to Sunday, October 11, 2026 1:00 PM

What to Expect:
– Electrical power will be briefly interrupted.
– The emergency generators serving these two buildings will activate and provide backup power to RUP 1 and the Student Activity Center.
– OneIT data and voice communications in the Student Activity Center, RUP 1, West Deck, and Belk Track and Field will be inoperative.
-Emergency phones in the area and elevators fed by analog service will be unavailable.
– Normal operating power will be restored by 1 p.m. at the latest.
Affected Buildings:
* Irwin Belk Track Complex
* Barnhardt Student Activity Center
* Regional Utility Plant 1
* Central Deck (West Deck)

Why:
This work will improve the safety and reliability of the medium-voltage feeds to RUP 1 and the Student Activity Center.

There will be a partial lane closure on the west side of Mary Alexander Road by the Student Health Center.

What to Expect:
– There will be a 85-foot lift positioned along the side of Mary Alexander Road.
– Flaggers will be positioned at the front and rear of the lift to safely direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the work area.
– A technician will be working from the lift to access the roof and complete the repairs.

Why:
This work is necessary to repair a roof leak.
