University Again Listed Among ‘Guide to 399 Green Colleges’

UNC Charlotte made Princeton Review’s “Guide to 399 Green Colleges” for the second time. The guide, published in October, is an unranked list of environmentally responsible “green” colleges, which students often consider when applying.

The Princeton Review publishes this guide after reviewing colleges’ entries either through a lengthy survey or through the college’s Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS). This year, 399 of the 648 colleges that applied made the guide, including colleges in the U.S., Canada, Egypt and Greece.

The Princeton Review’s survey focuses on the school’s sustainability-related policies, practices and programs, along with additional data points. Schools are given a Green Rating score of 60 to 99. Colleges that rank above an 80 are included in the guide.

Using data from the AASHE STARS silver rating earned in 2016, UNC Charlotte received a score of 87 on the guide. Princeton Review’s report highlighted faculty research efforts, including the Integrated Network for Social Sustainability, the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) and the Center for Sustainably Integrated Buildings and Sites.

Additionally, the University was recognized for applying green design standards in building projects, the zero waste football stadium, green cleaning practices and dining innovations such as composting.
