Phase two work to begin on Academic Complex

Date:
August 18, 2017

Work to transform the Macy and Barnard Buildings as phase two of the Academic Complex Renovation (ACR) project will begin August 22.

The project is a part of the Five-year Capital Construction Plan with the goal to modernize the Denny, Macy, Barnard, Garinger and Winningham buildings – which comprise the Academic Complex in the historic core of campus.  Modernizations will include color-coded interiors to enhance navigation throughout the complex.

Phase two work to be completed includes heating and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades; sprinkler and fire alarm improvements; new windows; and upgrades to the facility’s interior, such as new paint, carpeting and ceilings.

“The modernization of the Academic Complex continues as our highest priority in the Five-year Plan, with 2019 as the target for completion,” said Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for Facilities Management.

Occupants in the Macy and Barnard Buildings relocated to swing space in Hickory and Cedar on August 10-11.

Denny Building occupants remain in Cedar; and when phase one work is complete in December, occupants will return to their newly established work environment.

“Facilities Management in collaboration with Academic Affairs personnel, reaffirm our goal to ensure a smooth as possible transitions,” Jones stated.
