Successful campus cleanup diverts waste from landscape

Date:
April 15, 2016

On April 13, Facilities Management supported a campus cleanup by volunteers from faculty, staff, and the student body.  In all, dozens of volunteers set aside time to help collect trash and recyclables.

The Office of Waste Management and Recycling provided information to the public on how to responsibly dispose of certain items.  This event helps them evaluate where the highest concentrations of litter accumulates for future cleanup projects.

Students from The Charlotte Green Initiative promoted their grants program and the Sustainability and Green Career Panel scheduled for April 19.

“Campus cleanup provides us with the perfect opportunity to put the University’s commitment to being stewards of the environment into action” said Tyler Sytsma, University sustainability coordinator. “The event was also a great way to spread the word about the upcoming Earth Day Festival on April 20.”

Several truckloads of trash and recyclables were safely disposed, and we can all take pride in maintaining a beautiful campus.

Thank you to all for making this campus cleanup day a success.
